Mosta Traffic

Malta · Live conditions, incidents and cameras

Mosta sits at the crossroads of northern Malta. The Mosta Bypass, Naxxar Road and Targa Gap connect it to Valletta, the northwest and the airport. The Rotunda square is a frequent bottleneck at peak times.

Live cameras at nearby Attard (Mdina Road) give early warning of inbound congestion. The Mosta Bypass typically flows freely outside peak hours but backs up sharply around school start and finish times.

If you're heading north to Mellieħa, St Paul's Bay or Ċirkewwa for the Gozo ferry, Mosta is on the main route. Live map data helps decide between the bypass and the older Targa Gap road.

Parking

Mosta has a large public car park behind the Rotunda — free, plentiful, and within five minutes walking of the square. On Sunday mornings during mass it fills up but turnover is fast.

Street parking around the bypass and Naxxar Road is also generally available. The narrower streets of the old core are tight; do not attempt them in a larger vehicle.

Public transport alternatives

Mosta is well-connected by bus — routes from Valletta, Sliema, Buġibba and Mellieħa all stop at the central terminus. From Mosta you can reach almost anywhere in northern Malta without changing buses.

The Mosta-Mġarr-Ċirkewwa route is the standard for Gozo-bound passengers without a car. Buses are timed roughly to ferry departures.

Frequently asked

Is the Mosta Bypass fast?

Outside peak hours, yes — it's one of the better-flowing roads in Malta. During school runs (07:30–08:30 and 14:30–15:30) it slows significantly.
